In the 2023 Beaumont USD Film Festival, "Feeding Hope" received two awards: First Place in the staff division and the Viewer's Choice Award.

Case Study

I volunteer for an organization called, Feeding Matters. Inspired by their mission to raise awareness of Pediatric Feeding Disorder (PFD), I created a video documentary for Beaumont Unified School District's (BUSD) Film Festival. I designed and developed a 5-minute video to promote Feeding Matters' advocacy efforts.

Raising Awareness

PFD is a condition in which a child has difficulty eating or drinking enough to grow and develop properly. PFD can lead to malnutrition, developmental delays, and other health issues. PFD is a relatively new diagnosis and healthcare professionals may not be familiar with it. PFD can be subtle and may not be recognized until a child experiences failure to thrive. Feeding Matters is a non-profit organization that operates through the support of volunteers and states that there is a lack of resources for this condition.

Bridging the Gap

It is important for healthcare professionals, parents, and caregivers to be aware of the signs and symptoms of PFD and to advocate for appropriate screening and treatment for children who may be affected. BUSD has a population of 3-4 year old learners, that are enrolled in the early childhood special education program that experience feeding issues due to their disabilities.

Early Intervention

By raising awareness of PFD, it can help promote advocacy, improve diagnosis and treatment options, and increase funding for research. The goal is to eliminate the stigma with disability-related medical issues in the medical and educational sectors.
